PROVIDENCE PREPARATORY SCHOOL
GUARDIANS ARCHERY • 2026-27 SEASON
Meet Your Coaches
Mary Garcia -- Head Coach
Now in my 10th season with NASP as a parent and coach, I've led teams from 4th through 12th grade, including a first-year elementary team that brought home the Texas State 3D Championship 1st place trophy and most recently our Rhetoric team earning a rank of 51st in the United States.
Gene Garcia -- Assistant Coach
Gene brings an equal measure of NASP experience to the range, assisting with coaching and tournament operations throughout the season.
Amber Morel-Newton -- Assistant Coach
A bow hunter of 25 years and now in my 4th season as a NASP coach. When not coaching, I work behind the scenes as the team's IT coordinator, running the website, keeping registrations and rosters organized, and securing tournament flight times that fit our families' schedules.
Lewis Goodson -- Assistant Coach
An archery enthusiast of 20+ years and U.S. Army veteran entering my 2nd season as a NASP coach -- the team's resident "fix it" guy, keeping our equipment tuned, repaired, and ready to shoot.
Why Archery Matters to Us
Archery allows our families to participate in a sport built on inclusivity, good sportsmanship, and family values. As Christians, we love the opportunity to minister to the spiritual needs of our archers, not just the physical demands the sport requires. We believe in helping the whole person -- and, when welcome, praying with them. While we will never push our faith on anyone, we will always be available to show witness of who we are by what we do.
What Is NASP?
The National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) began in Kentucky in 2002 and is now a certified and accredited sports program in all 50 states.
Practice Schedule & Location
All instruction and practice take place at Sendero Shooting Sports. The first practice of the 2026-27 season is Thursday, September 10, 2026. Weekly practice times:
- Mondays: 4:00-4:45 PM and 4:45-5:30 PM
- Thursdays: 4:00-4:45 PM and 4:45-5:30 PM
Practice sign-ups are required at guardiansarchery.com. Sign-ups close at 10:00 PM the night before each practice. Lane space at Sendero is limited, so session times may vary based on group size.
Expected Commitment
Student Commitment
Archery is both an individual and a team sport. Every archer's score counts -- each individual result contributes directly to the team's rank and our qualification for State, Nationals, and Championships. When an archer misses a tournament, the whole team feels it.
Registered archers are expected to attend at least one practice per week, increasing to 5-7 practices per month as state competition approaches in March. Consistent practice is required -- it's how archers stay safe, improve, and earn their place on the tournament line.
Parent Commitment
Our coaches volunteer their time and practices run on a tight schedule. Parents are expected to pick up archers on time at the end of every practice (coaches cannot leave until every archer has been picked up), to communicate directly with coaches about schedule changes after deadlines have passed, and to stay on top of announcements on guardiansarchery.com and GroupMe.
Tournament sign-ups are a commitment. When your archer is registered for a tournament, the team is counting on them to be there. Withdrawals must be made before the posted deadline; no-shows hurt the team's score and standing and could result in disqualification. Please check your family's calendar before signing up.
Range Safety
Safety is non-negotiable at Sendero. Archers are expected to follow all range commands and coach instructions at all times and to treat equipment with care and respect. Any archer abusing equipment or behaving unsafely will be removed from the range immediately and parents will be contacted. Repeated safety violations may result in removal from the program.
